conference. In collaboration with the Indian Institute of =
Technology=20
(IIT) Madras, EWRI organized the conference entitled 3rd=20
International Perspective on Current and Future State of =
Water and=20
Environment. This event was held on January 5-7, 2010, at =
IIT=20
Madras, Chennai, India.
During the =
conference,=20
three distinguished professionals in the fields of water and =
environment gave invited keynote speeches. Dr. Slobodan P.=20
Simonovic, Director of Engineering Studies at the Institute =
for=20
Catastrophic Loss Reduction (The University of Western =
Ontario,=20
London, Ontario, Canada), gave the keynote lecture on =
=93Climate=20
Change and Water Resources: The Renaissance of Systems =
Approach.=94=20
Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak, Founder of the Sulabh Sanitation and =
Social=20
Reform Movement (Sulabh Bhawan, Mahavir Enclave, New Delhi, =
India),=20
presented a guest lecture entitled =93Sustainable Sanitation =
and=20
Millennium Development Goals.=94 Prof. Rafael Bras, =
Distinguished=20
Professor and Dean, The Henry Samueli School of Engineering=20
(University of California, Irvine), presented an ending =
keynote=20
lecture on =93Climate Change: What We Know and the Impacts =
on the=20
Natural and Man-made Environment.=94 In the Water and =
Environmental=20
Issues closing panel, eminent panelists from developing and=20
developed countries discussed the challenges in these areas =
and=20
possible solutions.
The =
conference was well=20
attended by approximately 400 professionals from more than =
24=20
countries. There were nearly 300 oral technical =
presentations and 60=20
poster presentations. The conference proceedings contained =
360=20
peer-reviewed technical papers.
Event attendees enjoyed 48 technical =
sessions in=20
five concurrent technical tracks and an interactive poster =
session.=20

- hydrology and hydraulics=20

The next international conference is =

ASCE/EWRI in collaboration with the National University of =

Environmental and Water Resources Management=94 will be held =
January=20
4-6, 2011 at Singapore.
