I am very happy to let you know the exceptial news I receivid yesterday from the President of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (
CAE ). I am informed that Fellows of the Academy have elected to offer me membership in the Academy. The Canadian Academy of Engineering is one of the three Member Academies of the Council of Canadian
Academies - the other two are the Royal Society of Canada and the Canadian Academies of Health Sciences. I am honored and very pleased that this outstanding recognition
has been offered to me and that I will join "the most highly accomplished men and women in the field of engineering in Canada" (quote from the letter). I will attend the
induction ceremony on June 20, 2013 in Montreal.
I have been recognized with 2013 Ven Te Chow Award by the American Society of Civil Engineers. The Ven Te Chow Award recognizes individuals whose lifetime achievements in the field of hydrologic engineering have been distinguished by exceptional achievement and significant contributions in research, education or practice. The award citation will read: "For his outstanding contributions in the fields of water resources modeling and management, climate change-sensitive hydrologic engineering, systems, analysis and soft computing-based methods in hydrology, and for his extensive service to profession and education through publications and books." I will receive the honor at the 2013 World Environmental & Water Resources Congress in Cincinnati, Ohio, May 19-23, 2013. Read about the award in Engineering Now, February, 2013.
Book Floods in a Changing Climate - Risk Management by Slobodan P. Simonovic is now available from Cambridge University Press. Book web page is under development.
Book Systems Approach to Management of Disasters: Methods and Applications by Slobodan P. Simonovic is available from Wiley and Sons Inc. Book web page is under development. Read about the book (a) in the Western Engineering News; (b) on the Prevention Web; (c) in the Western News (picture with the UWO President from the ceremony is available too); (d) in the Disaster Prevention and Management Journal; and (e) in the Natural Hazards Journal. An exiting news: the book is translated into Chinese language and will be available soon. Looking forward to new Chinese audience.
Book Managing Water Resources: Methods and Tools for a Systems Approach by Slobodan P. Simonovic is available from Earthscan/James & James. Visit my book page for details.Read the book review in the Electronic Green Journal.

Teaching
During the summer term I will not be teaching any courses.
Research
Research in FIDS (my reserach laboratory) is in a full swing with 2 Post Doctoral fellows, 4 PhD candidates and 2 MESc students working on various research projects. My primary research interest focuses on the application of systems approach to management of complex water and environmental systems with strong focus on explicit consideration of uncertainty. Most of the current research projects are addressing the impacts of climatic change on management of water resources systems. Select Research option for more details. If in London, be sure to visit us.
